Bobby Lee Underwood

Mr. Bobby L. Underwood, 86, of Hazel Green, Alabama, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening from his residence while surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Underwood was born in Russellville, Alabama to Charles B. & Addye Bailey Underwood.   After the death of his mother when he was very young,  he was raised by his grandmother and by his aunt, Carla Rae Gist.  He entered the merchant marines at the age of 15 and a half and was assigned to his first ship on his 16th birthday.  He later worked for Reynolds Aluminum for a short period of time before joining the United States Army and serving in the Korean Conflict.

Bobby was a faithful member of the Church of Christ for many years.  He was currently part of the Plainview Church of Christ congregation where he served as an elder from 1995 until 2011.  He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, being outdoors, farming, gardening, bee-keeping, and reading, but his passion was sharing his faith in Jesus Christ with those around him.

Mr. Underwood was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ila S. Underwood;  His mother Addye Bailey Underwood;  His father, Charles B. Underwood;  His aunt, Carla Rae Gist;  His sister, Charlene Underwood Lacey and her husband, Mose;  His brothers-in-law, Mack D. McCulloch and Fred O. Massey;  His step-grandson, Landon Tanner Taylor.

His son: Thomas G. Taylor and his wife, Sandra
His son: Charles R. Underwood and his wife, Lana
His daughter: Cynthia Gail Fincher
His daughter: Sherry Underwood Lowery and her husband, Mike
His son: David Wayne Underwood and his wife, Pam

His grandchildren:
Tony Taylor, Lance (Sherry) Taylor, Adam Taylor, Gwen Underwood Quevado, Leela McElyea (Clay), Ian Underwood, Robin Lee Tucker, Patrick Terry Fincher, Misty Dawn Taylor (Edwin), Chance Lowery, Brandy Vanderpool (Scot), Michael Underwood (Haley), Daniel Underwood (Hannah).

His great-grandchildren:
Jessica Taylor, Josh Taylor, Madison Taylor, Austin Taylor, Ethan Taylor, Devon Taylor, Nichole Tucker, Victoria Tucker, Garrison Tucker, Blakeleigh Taylor, Emma Vanderpool, Avery Vanderpool, Everett Vanderpool, Hudson Underwood.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 until 8pm at Plainview Church of Christ.  Funeral services will be Friday at 1pm at the church with Bro. Steve Hale officiating.   Burial will follow in Bevill's Cemetery.   Mr. Underwood's body will lie in state at the church an hour prior to the service.
