Julia Ann Johnson Woody, 99, of New Market, passed away Wednesday at her daughter's residence surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Howard L. Woody; mother and father, John C. and Lettie Tennessee Jackson Johnson; sister, Thelma Johnson Webb Deaton; brother, Fred C. Johnson; and son-in-law, Roy Edward Hastings.
She is survived by her loving daughter and caregiver for 14 years, Julia Ann Woody Hastings; two granddaughters, Cynthia "Cindy" Hastings Alderman, of Durant, Miss., and Kathryn "Kathy" Hastings Fowler White and husband, Floyd, of New Market; grandson, Mark Edward Hastings of Hazel Green; three great-granddaughters, Megan and Mallory Alderman of Jackson, Miss., and Brittany White of Athens; two great-grandsons, Joshua Heath Fowler of Hazel Green, and Charles Samuel Black and wife, Angel, of Athens; three great-great-grandsons; three nieces; and one nephew.
She was born in Cookville, Tenn., and at the age of three, she and her family moved to Huntsville. She attended Rison School. She worked as a weaver in Dallas Mill from 1943 to 1949. The Woody family moved to a farm in the Walnut Grove community in the New Market/Hazel Green area in 1947. In 1950 she started a dairy business which she operated until she retired in 1987 at the age of 72.
She was greatly loved and will be missed by her family and many friends.
She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church of New Market for 65 years where she had served as Sunday School teacher and as a member of the senior "Good Neighbors".
Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. to start of services at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of the Hazel Green Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Little officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery.
