Mrs. Allie Mae Sharp Fanning, 81, of Huntsville, formerly of Hazel Green, Alabama and Park City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2016.
Mrs. Fanning was born and raised in Madison County and served as Post Master of Hazel Green for many years. She and her husband, Horace, were long-time members of the First Baptist Church of Hazel Green and were later members of Prospect Baptist Church. Over the years, she served in her churches teaching preschool children through senior adults and as WMU Director, VBS Director, volunteer church secretary, and was available to serve in any other area as needed.
Her hobbies included reading, writing, puzzles, gardening, and caring for her family.
Mrs. Fanning was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Fanning, by her parents, Percy Lewis Sharp and Gladys Ivy McCord Sharp, by her sister, Lynda Sharp Hale, by her brothers-in-law, Tracy Dickens, Hollis Hale, and Terry Rogers, and by her niece, Teresa Rogers.
She is survived by her son, Harold Fanning and his wife, Debbie; by her daughter, Janice Hunter and her husband, Steve; and by her daughter Nanci Anderson and her husband, Steve. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alison Creel and her husband, Adam; Daniel Fanning and his wife, Scotlan; Nicki Story and her husband, Scot; Paul Hunter and his wife, Mandy; Nicholas Anderson and his wife, Bridgette; Joseph Anderson and his wife, Kenzie. Her 14 great-grandchildren include: Audrey, Anna, Adeline, Liam, Eli, Abbie, Ben, Millie, Kobi, Jack, Madison, Luke, Jacob, and Korben. Mrs. Fanning is survived by her sisters, Faye Sharp and Ann Rogers and by her brothers, Billy Joe Sharp, Jimmy Sharp, Benny Sharp, and Kenny Sharp along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and church family members.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 until 3pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3pm at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery.
