Barbara Marie (Foxall) Carroll, 85, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Carroll was born on November 27, 1932, in Jersey City, NJ, the eldest child of George and Marie Foxall. After graduating from William L. Dickinson High School, she married Edward J. Carroll on June 7, 1952, in Jersey City. In December 1958, they moved to Lake Tranquility, NJ, where they raised their four children. It was truly an idyllic life in a beautiful rural setting. In May 1986, they relocated to Hazel Green, AL.
Mrs. Carroll was a member of the Hazel Green United Methodist Church for over 30 years and loved her church community. She volunteered in the nursery, took attendance, correlated the Epistle every month, and folded the Sunday bulletins.
Even from her wheelchair, she stayed active in her local community and computerized some of the Hazel Green Library’s holdings.
Mrs. Carroll was an avid knitter and also enjoyed crocheting, reading, and gardening. She knitted over 350 sweaters to donate to the Knit for Kids Program, which helps vulnerable children living in poverty all over the world. Her story was submitted to Reader’s Digest by her sister and appeared in an issue several years ago.
She is survived by her husband of almost 66 years, Edward, of Hazel Green; their four children, Linda Bifulco of Huntsville, AL, Michael (and Lisa) Carroll of Dumphries, VA, Stephen Carroll of Hazel Green, AL, and David (and Andrea) Carroll of Eagle River, AK; and her ten grandchildren, Rebecca (and Jack) Eagly of Huntsville, AL, Brian (and Amanda) Bifulco of Arlington, VA, Jason Carroll of New Market, AL, Jeff Carroll of Huntsville, AL, Jeremy (and Lyndsi) Carroll of Huntsville, AL, Katrina Burlage of Truth or Consequences, NM, Timothy Carroll of Truth or Consequences, NM, Joseph Carroll of Hazel Green, AL, Jasmine Carroll of Ankeny, IA, and Chelsea Carroll of Eagle River, AK. Mrs. Carroll is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Patrick, Christopher, Jonathan, and Viviana Eagly, Nathaniel Bifulco, Micah Carroll, and James and Caroline Burlage. She leaves her sister and brother, Patricia August and George J. Foxall, Jr., both of Port Charlotte, FL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, George J. Foxall, Sr. in 2005 and Marie C. Foxall in 1997, and by her brother, Robert W. Foxall in 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 23rd, at Hazel Green Funeral Home in Hazel Green. Interment will be private. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hazel Green Funeral Home.
