Benny Moore

Benny Mitchell Moore, 83, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. He was a life-long resident of Hazel Green and was raised on a family farm with his parents, two brothers and two sisters. After graduating from Hazel Green High School, Mr. Moore met and married Jimmie Sue McCollum Moore. They were blessed with 61+ years of marriage and raised two daughters. In early adulthood, he was a carpenter building houses, was a technician at Thiokol and served in the Army Reserves. Later, Mr. Moore and his oldest brother built and managed five 24 hour restaurants in Huntsville and Tennessee. They were also owner/operators of a Western Auto business in Guntersville, AL.

Then as his father was aging, Mr. Moore returned to Hazel Green and became a partner in the family dairy and farming business. After successful and fulfilling years as a dairy farmer, Mr. Moore retired from farming and went on to enjoy a 10 year career at Madison County District 1. In his retirement years, he enjoyed maintaining his home and property and spending leisurely days with his wife. Mr. Moore was a member of Murphy Hill Baptist Church and a Shriner.

He was certainly a one of a kind man – witty, wise, hard working, honest, giving and devoted to his family. He wore a smile on his face and brought much joy to all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Moore is survived by his loving wife, Jimmie Sue McCollum Moore; two daughters Susan (David) Wright and Sandi (Wayne) Wilburn; five grand children; two great grandchildren; two sisters Loveal Thompson and Betty (Allen) Doring; sister-in-laws Mary Elizabeth Beasley, JoAnn Fan and Dorothy Bentley Moore; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his father, Mitchell E Moore; mother, Dovie Mae Hicks Moore; and brothers Harold and Ray Moore.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 17th at Hazel Green Funeral Home from 10am until 1pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1pm. Burial will follow at Charity Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Friends of Tillman D. Hill Library, 131 Knowledge Drive, Hazel Green, AL 35750. (256)828-9529.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Moore, Kyle Moore, Brad DeWeese, Michael Fraizer, Paul Moody Arnold, Seth Beard, Willie Billy Humphrey, and Larry Kimbrough.
