Bertie Jean Christmas, 85, of Meridianville, formerly of Columbia, South Carolina, went to be with the Lord on Saturday while surrounded by her loving family.
She was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord and her church. She was part of the Bell Road Church of God of Prophecy in Huntsville. She also loved her family very much.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Christmas; Her sons: William Thomas Christmas, Donald Ray Christmas, and David Allen Christmas; Her son-in-law, Russell Powers; Two grandchildren: Melissa Powers and Mark Wakefield; Her parents: Toland Roland & Rhodie Taylor Roland; Her brother, Conley Roland; Her sister and brother-in-law, Loretta & Harley Ard; Her sister, Finley Sturkie; Her brother-in-law, Mendel Yonce;
Surviving family members include her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne & Amy Christmas; Her daughter and son-in-law, Kay & Butch Nesmith; Her daughter, Kathy Powers; Her sister, Kate Yonce; Her brother-in-law, Bill Sturkie; Her 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild expected soon. Mrs. Christmas is loving referred to as "Grandma" by numerous other people who were a special part of her life.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 until 4pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 4pm at the funeral home with Bishop Harold St. Clair officiating.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Amedisys Home Health and Hospice for the loving and compassionate care that they provided for Mrs. Christmas.
