Mr. Virgil "Bill" Thrower, 94, of Hazel Green, passed away on Tuesday at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Bill owned and operated the Texaco Stations on Meridian Street and Memorial Parkway and also owned and operated Bill Thrower Auto Parts in Huntsville. He was born and raised in the Holly Tree community in Paint Rock Valley where his family farmed.  Bill was a hard worker and had also been employed at Lincoln Mill.

On October 9, 1942, Bill married Kathleen Gaines and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage before she passed away in May of 2008.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, James Henry and Lucy Thrower,  his daughter, Virginia Stolz, and by six siblings.

He is survived by his daughter, Becky Richardson;  His grandchildren:  Dawn (Steven) Bastarache, Michael Richardson, Leaha (Dave) Sharp, Misty Sisk, and Christopher Stolz; His nine great-grandchildren:  Devon Richardson, Ryan Richardson, James Sisk, Alexandra Bastarache, Tristan Richardson, Ava Sharp, Cyrus Richardson, Zoe Stolz, and Jackson Sharp;  His three siblings:  Cleo Stone, Veda Wooten, and Judy Cox;

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5 until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Friday at 2pm at the funeral home with Pastor Josh Duncan officiating.  Burial will follow in Paint Rock Cemetery.
