Billy Wayne Bates

Billy Wayne Bates of New Market passed away on Monday. He was 58.

Billy had been a long-time member of the New Market Volunteer Fire Department where he loved serving his community.  He had a great personality, loved joking around with everyone, and he never met a stranger.  Billy enjoyed college football, was an Alabama fan, and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.   He was especially proud of his first granddaughter who he called Princess.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Junior "Bill" Bates, Belle Bates, and Joy Standifer;   his step-brother, Danny Ray Cagle.

Surviving family members include his daughter, Hailey Bates and her husband, Clay Culberson;  his step-daughter, Elizabeth Marie Smith; his granddaughter, Oakleigh Culberson;  his brothers, Tommy Bates and Lee Bates; his sisters, Linda Blizzard and Veronica Dawson;  His step-brothers, Larry Dean Cagle and Rodney Thompson;  his step-sisters, Carol Williams and Cynthia Thompson.    He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday at 12pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home with Brother David Helton officiating.  The family will begin receiving friends two hours before the service.  Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery in Lincoln County following the chapel service.
