Carl Wayne Thaggard
February 9, 1937 — June 5, 2023
Carl Wayne Thaggard, age 86, passed from this life into the next on June 5, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, beloved stepson, Barron Hammock (Linda), granddaughter, Brittney Hammock, grandsons, Austin Hammock, Blake Hammock (Erin) and great-grandson, Rhett Hammock.
Wayne was born in Brooksville, Florida on February 9, 1937. He attended Hernando High School, the University of Florida, and the University of Miami. He also served in the United States Air Force. After his military service, Wayne enjoyed a long career in civil service that included the US Department of Agriculture, the US Public Health Service, and the Social Security Administration. He retired in 1992 at age 55 so he could spend some of his yet vibrant years enjoying his family and pursuing his favorite hobbies which included woodcarving and writing.
Wayne was a member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church and the Wesley Forum Sunday School Class for many years, a long-time member of the Tannehill Woodcarvers Association and the National Woodcarvers Association.
A graveside service will be held at Southern Heritage Cemetery, 475 Cahaba Valley Road; Pelham, Alabama 35124 on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 1:30pm.
