Claude Edwin West, 79, of Hazel Green, Alabama passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021 surrounded by his family at his home.

He was born on January 15, 1942, in Huntsville, Alabama, where he grew up and attended Butler High School. In 1960, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served as a paratrooper of the 101st Airborne. After his honorary discharge in 1965, his family returned to the Huntsville area where he worked and retired from SCI/Samina as a quality engineer. He was also a retired member of the Alabama National Guard. He was a proud veteran who served our country well. His family is very proud of his service.

God always came first for Mr. West, then his wife and family, then Alabama football. His favorite days were spent on the golf course or sitting on the front porch with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Golf was his favorite hobby, he even shot a hole-in-one that he was very proud of. Over the past few years, his hobbies shifted to mowing his yard and waving at neighbors as they drove past. He loved spending Saturday mornings with his family and friends at Cassie’s Cafe, and his family loved those days as well. He never met a stranger, he welcomed anyone to his home. His life was well-lived, and he was well-loved.

Mr. West is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Estelle West, his sister, Marie Bridges, and his son, Cary West. He is survived by his bride of 60 years Dean Neely West, his daughters Shari (Mark) Appel and Robyn (Rob) Elich, and his brother-in-law, Randy Neely. Five grandchildren: Ashley (Josh) Elmore, Mitchell (Anna) West, Katie (Colby) Finnegan, Hannah (Ross) Umphrey, and Ivey Grace (Dustin) Sharp. He also adored his great-grandchildren: Peyton, Hudson, Henry, Jackson, Zeke, Kian, Elliott, and Tieg.

The family will receive friends at Harmony Hill Church of God in Fayetteville, TN, on Saturday, August 7, 2021, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM with a celebration service following at 12:00. The family will have a burial later.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Harmony Hill Child Care Center at 3063 Huntsville Highway;  Fayetteville, TN  37334.
