David Lawrence Rooks, (78) surrounded by his loving family, passed away at home Sunday night, the 30th of July. A southern gentleman, David embraced the richness of life through his cherished roles as husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. The loving son of Myrtle and Frank Rooks David was born June 24, 1940.  After graduating from Pisgah High School, Mr. Rooks started working at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Throughout his time at Redstone David remained a dedicated employee so much so that he was hired back in as a contractor working in the same position after he retired. His combined time of forty-eight years was all spent as a computer specialist/analyst. He enjoyed his work and everyone he came in contact with enjoyed his sincerity and professionalism.

David's passions were working in his garden, growing the biggest tomatoes you can imagine, working on his farm in Tennessee, and cooking. But his favorite pastime - his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. This sweet soul will be so missed by all of them.

Mr. Rooks and his first wife Gladys were married for 26 years and had three daughters together (Kim, Angie, and Amy), He married his second wife, Joanne, in 1999 and they set up residence in Hazel Green, Alabama.  Together they spend many hours with family always enjoying David's marvelous cooking.

Mr. Rooks was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his daughter Angie, three brothers and one sister and one grandson, Zachary Phillips.  Survivors include his daughter, Kim Russell, his daughter Amy Mount (Bill), son Michael Ransom Rooks, daughter Lana Weir (Tucker), and one special granddaughter (Katrina Thurman) He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

In celebration of the life of David Lawrence Rooks, his family will receive friends on Friday, August 3rd, at Hazel Green Funeral Home between 6 and 9.  Mr. Rooks Funeral Service will be on Saturday, August 4th at 11. Service will be conducted by Rev Lon Ostrzycki.

Burial will follow at Chaneys Chapel Cemetery in Dutton, Alabama.
