Dorothy E. (Phillips) Johnson

Dorothy E. Johnson, 86, of Gurley, formerly of Huntsville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday while surrounded by her loving family.

She was a graduate of Lincoln School in Huntsville.  She was a Christian and a long-time member of Lincoln Baptist Church which later became Heritage Baptist Church.  She later became a part of the Locust Grove Baptist Church family where she remained for approximately the last 20 years.   While devoting her life to being a wife and mother, she also loved the children at Lincoln School where she worked for many years as a substitute teacher.  Dorothy "Dot" was part of a large extended family and she loved staying in touch and spending time with them.

She was preceded in death in 2014 by her husband of 61 years, Nels G. Johnson; Her parents, Clifford and Lola Phillips; Her brother, Jack Phillips.

Surviving family members include her daughter, Rhonda Carden and her friend, Rob Buyher;   Annita Fanning and her husband, Talley;  Kevin Johnson and his wife, Pat; Her brother, Billy Phillips and his wife, Bobbie; her grandchildren, Bethany (Bruce) Alexander, Jonathan (Jenna) Fanning, Philip (Amanda) Carden, Joshua (Mariah) Fanning, and Jacob (Tiffany) Fanning; Her great-grandchildren: Jarrett Fanning, Jessa Fanning, Samuel Fanning, Gracie Fanning, Vera-Lynn Fanning;  Her sisters-in-law, Alberta Johnson and Marilyn Johnson.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 4 until 6pm at Locust Grove Baptist Church.   A Celebration of Life will follow at 6pm with Dr. Robert White officiating.
