Richard Dwight Hamaker, 70, of Hazel Green, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday.
Dwight was a 1967 graduate of Ardmore High School and always considered Ardmore his home. He enjoyed building things and working with wood and with old trucks, and he never met a stranger - always enjoying talking with anyone. He was a gifted builder and was a General Contractor for almost fifty years. Dwight was also a Christian and a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hazel Green. He was a loving husband, father, and "papa" who cherished spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed & Katie Lee Hamaker; By his brothers: Melvin, Dean, and Rodger Hamaker; By his sisters: Helen Ikard, Carolyn Bracken, and Jean Swinford.
Surviving family members include his wife of 47 years, Kathy Taylor Hamaker; His son, Keenan Hamaker and his fiance, Pam Chappelle; His daughter, Sonya Hutchens and her husband, Aaron; His four grandchildren: Kaylan Hamaker, Keevan Hamaker, Wyatt Hutchens, and Levi Hutchens; His sister, Connie Bowling. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday beginning at 1pm at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hazel Green. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3pm at the church with Pastor Lon Ostrzycki officiating. A committal service and burial will follow in Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore.
