Edward Harold Sorden Jr, born May 31, 1929 in Philadephia, Pennsylvania, passed away February 7,  2023.

After retiring from the Army in 1967, he moved to Huntsville, Alabama and remained a resident until the time of his death.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, Edward Harold Sorden & Frances Morton Sorden and by his son, CPL. David Harold Sorden USMC, making him a Gold Star father. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Anna Schaeffer.

Mr. Sorden is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sorden; His children: Patty Sorden Beesley, Linda Sorden (Jim) Ellis, Edward Dennis Sorden, James Edward Sorden, William Francis Sorden, and John Michael (Billie Sue) Sorden; Shirley (Michael) Frumkin, Linda (Jim) Snellgrove and Alice Sullivan. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Ed was a three war, Purple Heart veteran.  He enlisted in the army when he was 17.  His mom had to sign so that he could enlist at the end of World War II.  He received his Purple Heart while serving in Korea and retired after 20 years as a Chief Warrant Officer.  He worked for various government contractors in Huntsville for the next twenty years, including Dunlop Tires, Whittaker Corp, 4C's (Command, Control and Communications Corporation),and Pace and Waite.

He was an Honorary Lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #1648 and served as the editor of The Elks Call for 20 years as well as Chaplain for five years.  He was also a member of the American Legion #237, Veterans of Foreign Wars #2702 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3263.  He worked as a volunteer with Therapy Partners visiting the Hospitals, Retirement Homes Rehab Centers and Schools.  He actively worked with Fantasy Playhouse Children's Theatre.

Visitation with family will be at Hazel Green Funeral Home on Thursday, February 16 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.  Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 17 at 3:00pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.  Burial will be held at a later date with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Elks Lodge #1648, Fantasy Playhouse Children's Theater, Therapy Partners, or a charity of your choice.
