Elizabeth "Betty" Shoaf Withers

Elizabeth "Betty" Shoaf Withers passed away on July 25, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Grace Elizabeth Shoaf on September17,1928 to Grace Rowe and Thomas Milton Shoaf of Salisbury, North Carolina. She married B. R. “Buck” Withers on August 9, 1949.

Betty is survived by her children, Robert Withers, Grace Miller, Sarah (Bill) Vigilant,George (Inam) Withers and June (Mark) Simko; her grandchildren, Ashlee, Ben, Mike, Monica, Paul,  Andrew, Daniel,and Drew; and her great granddaughters, Bella, Faith, Norah, Charlotte and Cleopatra. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Buck Withers,her son Reed Withers, her sisters Jean Shoaf Holshouser and Anne Shoaf Loeblein and her brother Thomas Milton Shoaf, Jr.

Betty graduated from Catawba College and taught 8th grade English for several years. She raised 6 children and numerous foster children. Hospitality was Betty's forte.Friends and family were always welcome in the Withers' household. Holidays were centered around Betty's home.She cooked many a holiday meal with all the trimmings. She loved her family, her church, singing and traveling. She volunteered for the American Red Cross,CASA and other organizations. Betty was a skilled seamstress, making most of the clothing for her children, some even into their adult years. She crocheted and knitted afghans and sewed quilts for each of her children. She crocheted numerous prayer shawls for the prayer shawl ministry at Unity Church in Conyers. Betty loved learning new skills. She learned how to carve wood and to play the piano later in life. Betty sang in the Epiphany Lutheran Church Choir, in addition to singing in the Covington Chorale Guild for many years. She was an avid reader and was known for having a beautiful smile and a sweet spirit.

The family of Betty Withers would like to thank Lincoln County Hospice nurses and staff for their outstanding support in taking care of Betty since 2021. The celebration of life service will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 2375 Hwy 20 SE, Conyers, GA 30013, on September 17,2022. It will be followed by a graveyard service at Green Meadows Cemetery, 699 American Legion Rd NE, Conyers, GA 30012.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Epiphany Lutheran Church.
