Frank Sharp

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Franklin Sharp, who went to be with the Lord peacefully on March 4, 2025 at the age of 84.

Frank was born on February 5, 1941 in New Market, AL, to Albert and Pearl Sharp. He married Martha Jane Sharp on June 16, 1962 and spent almost 60 years with her by his side. Frank took great pride in his family and his past. His ancestors settled Sharp’s Cove in the early 1800s, providing him strong ties to the land and many lifelong friendships among the Riverton/New Market community.

As patriarch of the family, he was endearingly known as Daddy, Pops, Uncle Frank, and Baby Brother. He displayed his adoration for Christ through the way he loved those around him. It is an ongoing debate about who was the favorite daughter and who was the favorite grandchild, but that’s the thing - he cared for them so deeply that they each felt the most cherished. If you were ever in his presence, you were guaranteed to feel seen, heard, and loved. You could always count on a hug and “I love ya!” in his warm voice.

Frank filled many roles in his lifetime. He was the milk man, the candy man, owner of Country Crossing, and a grocer. He retired from Allison Wholesale Company in 2018. While he knew the value of hard work, his most favorite roles he filled were that of husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and servant of the Lord. Frank faithfully served many years as a Gideon, served as a deacon at Hillsboro Heights Baptist and All Nations Baptist, and was a current member at Grace Baptist.

A few favorite memories of the family are his stories from growing up, beach trips with the whole family, visiting his daughter, Annette, in Greece, getting a call from him on their birthdays, visiting his family in South Carolina, his infamous New Market Tours, and his ability to illicit laughter with his quick wit. Frank enjoyed bird watching, growing flowers, working puzzles, fishing, and he could tell you anything you need to know about farming. Simply, to know him, was to love him. Family and friends describe him as humble, humorous, precious, a great father, a legendary Pops, a story teller, a sweet man, and a kind soul. A friend of the family says “he was one of the best men {he} ever had the opportunity to know.”

Frank would often say, “You know anything good?” when starting up a conversation with you. It is safe to say that he knows something good right now. He is in the presence of his Savior and reunited with his family and the love of his life. At last, he is in his eternal home, sweet Beulah Land.

He is survived by his daughters Annette Eaddy (Spencer), Cathy Campbell (Labronn), and Kelli Hames (Jason). Grandchildren Joseph McComas (Tiffany), Brian McComas (Maryann), Amery Freeman (Forrest), Rena Clemons (Carlos), Nelson Hames (Carly), several great-grandchildren and bonus grandchildren. Brother Donald Sharp (Carolyn), sisters-in-law Hazel Sharpe, Jan Henderson, Brenda Sharp, Jeanne Smith (Horace), a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Teddy.

The family also wants to recognize close friend, Kimberly Sizemore. Kim was often referred to as “the spare daughter” because she was always willing to assist the sisters and cared for Frank as family. She and Frank enjoyed weekly lunches together.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jane Sharp, his parents, Albert and Pearl Sharp, brothers Charles, Thomas, Kenneth, and Dwayne Sharp, and sisters Barbara Mitchell, Christine Brown, and Yvonne Sims.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 11:30am until 2:00pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.  Funeral services will follow at 2pm in the funeral home chapel.  Burial will then follow in Taylor Cemetery.
