Marion Harold "Hal" Maddox passed away on November 27, 2018 at his home in Gulf Breeze, Florida.
Mr. Maddox was born in Hazel Green, Alabama on February 23, 1943. He attended Walnut Grove Elementary School and Hazel Green High School, graduating in the Class of 1961. In his early career he worked for RCA as a technician, and for the U.S. Army Audio/Video Lab. He finished his career as a program manager working at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, and retired from his final position with the Department of Defense at Eglin Air Force Base in 2004.
He then started his next career as General Contractor for his wife, Gina, building their waterfront dream home in Gulf Breeze FL to replace their home that had been destroyed by Hurricane Ivan.
Hal was a Distinguished Toastmaster and Past District Governor for Toastmasters International for the state of Alabama. Hal loved living on the Florida Gulf Coast where he spent his retirement years growing tropical plants, observing the seabirds and wildlife, spending time in the natural world, studying mechanical science and photonics, traveling with his wife, driving his 1980 TR8 and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Marion Maddox and Nellie Gray Maddox, brother, Carlos James Maddox, sisters, Virginia "Tuta" Callen, Ann Maselli, Vivian Cobb, and daughter Anya Paulette Maddox.
He leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Gina Covell Maddox, sons, Jason Maddox, Carlos Maddox, Daniel Matson, daughter Jaime Matson Alioto, nieces, Pam Elias, Cynthia Bailey and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday at Hazel Green Funeral Home beginning at 9AM followed by funeral services at 10am. Burial will follow the service and will be in Concord Cemetery.
