Henry J. “Son” Carter III, age 61, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at his home in Hazel Green, AL. He was born on August 11, 1956, in Decatur, AL to Henry J. Carter Jr. and Frances McDonald Carter. He was a 1974 graduate of Hazel Green High School. He began working with his father at the family business, North Alabama Gin, located in Hazel Green, AL. He married Kim Carroll o March 3, 1979 who was his high school sweetheart. Son continued working there with his father until he retired and then took over the business. He continued driving a truck and running the business once Son’s health prevented him from working. Son never met a stranger! He lived life to its fullest, always wanting to help anyone that he could assist! His family was his life and was affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Day Day”! He loved the Lord and his church family. He was a member of Hazel Green United Methodist Church where he greeted everyone with his sweet smile. He loved music and could play many instruments by ear. He had a large music collection and enjoyed being a DJ for many years. He loved being outdoors at the lake, camping and boating with his family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry J. Carter Jr., mother, Frances McDonald Carter, stepmother, Pamela Shields Carter, his oldest son, Henry J. “Jay” Carter IV, and his mother-in-law, Pat Carroll. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kim Carroll Carter; his son Brad (Christy) Carter and grandchildren, Aisley, Bentley, and Baron Carter; his sisters, Sandy Deweese (Johnny Wayne); Pamela Hawkins and Jo Leigh Mason; aunts Paula Rainey, Connie Woodall, Jeannie Bowman and Patsy (Larry) Dunnavant; father-in-law, Marvin Carroll; sisters-in-law, Pam (Roger) Grider and Amy (Lance) Church; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hazel Green United Methodist Church, Amedysis Hospice, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Visitation will be held at Hazel Green United Methodist Church Thursday 6-9PM. Funeral services will be held Friday 12 Noon also at the church. Rev. Al Geise officiating, and burial will follow in the Madison Crossroads Cemetery. Hazel Green Funeral Home in charge.
