Isabelle (Moore) Bates

Isabelle "Ms. Belle" Bates, 76, of New Market, passed away on Thursday morning at home surrounded by her loving family.

Ms. Belle was an exceptional mother, a kind and caring person with a sweet personality, and was loved by her family and by all who met her - if you met Ms. Belle, you loved Ms. Belle.  She had a positive spirit and never had a bad word to say about anyone.  She was a lifelong member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in New Market and she demonstrated her Christian faith by always wanting to help others.  She, along with her late husband and Rev. Junior Smith, operated Hickory Grove BBQ on Hurricane Creek Road in New Market where she was famous for her fried pies.  For many years, Belle sang gospel music in a quartet with her husband, her brother, and her sister-in-law - singing for shut-ins and nursing homes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Fredrick Bates;  Her parents, George Lesley Moore and Odie Marie Mason Moore; Her brother, William Moore;

Surviving family members include her daughter and her husband, Carol and Tim Williams;  Her son, Danny Cagle;   Her son, Larry Cagle and his wife, Pam;  Her son, Wilburn "Lee" Bates;  Her son, Thomas Bates; Her son, Billy Bates;  Her daughter, Linda Blizzard and her husband, Brian;  10 Grandchildren; 12 Great-grandchildren; Her two brothers: Charlie Moore and Andrew Moore.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home with Rev. Sonny Moore officiating.   Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will begin at Noon at the funeral home.
