James H. Sweeney

Mr. James H. Sweeney, 82, of Hazel Green, Alabama, formerly of Senatobia, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday evening at home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Sweeney was born and raised in Janice, Mississippi and was a good ole country boy who loved the outdoors, working with his hands, and fixing things that were broken.  He served honorably in the United States Navy and the United States Air Force.  He was then a professional driver for Trailways and Greyhound bus companies and retired after 35 years of safe driving with no accidents.  He had the honor of driving the Ole Miss Football team of which he was a huge fan.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Mae Fiveash Sweeney and by five uncles.

Surviving family members include his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia Denton Sweeney;  His daughter and son-in-law, Claire & Mike Ragsdale; His grandson, Matthew Goss and his companion, Stacey Marie Gambill;  His great-granddaughter who was the apple of his eye, Keira Daphne Goss;  His sister-in-law, Jackye Stinnett.

The family will receive friends on Saturday beginning at 1:30pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.  Funeral services with full military honors will follow at 3pm at the funeral home with Chaplain Laura Lemley officiating.
