Jane Mitchell Wikle, 74, peacefully passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, AL after a long battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. She is survived by her husband, H.C. “Sonny” Wikle, Jr., her sister Joyce Downs and brother-in-law Clellon Downs, sister Linda Williams, children Clyde and Mary Jo Wikle, Nancy and Wil Riggins, Missy Patterson, and Mary Wikle, and her grandchildren, Tessa Patterson, Lucy Patterson, Katie Wikle, Carl Wikle, Weston Jones, Cassie Jones, Austin Riggins and Baylee Riggins.  She took in many “strays” and mothered many kids in the community. She was loved and feared for all the right reasons. She was known by many names such as Mom, Mother, Momma, Granny Jane, Franny, and Boom Boom.

Jane grew up in Ryland and Huntsville in her younger years.  She attended Central Middle School, Madison County High School and Butler High School.  She was a homemaker while her children were young, volunteered for PTA, was an assistant PE coach at Meridianville Junior High, and put many miles on a Ford station wagon as an unpaid taxi driver taking as many people as she could fit in that car to numerous activities.

She later worked for the General Adjustment Bureau, Kelly Temp Agency, Nichol’s Research Corp, CSC, Bentley Animal Hospital (she didn’t really even like animals!) and as a contractor for the Missile Defense Agency. She worked longer than she wanted because she needed health insurance.  Good thing she had it!

Jane had a few vices over the years. She loved Raleigh Filter Kings and was a member of the notorious “Fab Four” Canasta gang whose surviving members are Catherine Wells, Doris Cothren, and Jean Graves.   She gave up the cigarettes 30 years ago but remained a gang member until the end.  She’d tell you cigarettes will kill you so don’t start.

Jane didn’t really like flowers too much…or laundry, vacuuming, yard work, or dusting – heck, her house is one pile away from an episode of “Hoarders.”  Maybe that is a bit of a stretch, but the point is if you feel the need to send flowers, please use your money to do something kind for someone in need. Help a friend or stranger and/or pay it forward.  That’s how she found her joy.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 25, 2017 at Hazel Green Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and a graveside service held Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Valley View Gardens at 10:00 a.m. in Meridianville, AL.  Funeral services will be performed by Bro. Eddie Lones with Pallbearers: Vince Williams, James Gossett, Jonathan Williams, Justin Dorning, Brian Jones and Johnny Patterson.

Please note, she will probably be late arriving as usual and will turn out the lights as she leaves.  She hated to leave good company.
