John D. ( Sonny) Smith, age 81 died September 25, 2021 at a San Antonia, Texas hospital. He was born October 19, 1939 in the family home in Toney, Alabama the son of the late John Nathan and Louise M. (Phillips) Smith.
Sonny was a lifelong semi-truck driver for over 30 years retired and living in Harper, Texas.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, John N. and Louise M. Smith. A son, Jeffery Smith, his brothers, Bobby J. Smith and Robert Smith. His sister, Mildred Faye (Smith) Bolin.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Harry) Kosters, his sons, Jim (Michelle) Smith, Mike (Dayna) Smith, Ken (keri) Smith and Kevin Smith. His brother, Keith Smith, his sisters, Pauline Brummett, Wanda (Terry) Goolsby and Nancy Hall. Step-daughter Janene Burnett. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 17 from 12:30 until 2:30 at Hazel Green Funeral Home with services to follow at 2:30 with his nephew David Keller officiating. Burial will be at New Sharon Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Doug Clark, Darrell Clark, Derrick Clark, Jared Graham, Jody Graham and Brian Smith.
