John Larry Owens

Mr. John Larry Owens Sr, 78, of Huntsville, passed away on Thursday at his home surrounded by his loving family.   Mr. Owens worked at E.F. Dubose Nursery for 30 years before retiring.  He then worked for nine years at Christmas Charities.  He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren and he loved music and fishing.

He was preceded in by his parents, Charlie Elmer and Mattie Gaye Burgess Owens; Three brothers: Sonny Boy Owens, Robert Owens, and Jim Owens.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Trudy Owens;   His four sons:  John (Rose) Owens Jr., Tommy Wayne (Lisa) Owens, Steve (Jennifer) Owens, and Scott (Donna) Owens;  His grandchildren: Kelly Owens, Timothy Owens, Tommy Owens Jr, Larry Owens, Amber Owens, Ashley Owens, and Jacob Owens;  Two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Briley Owens.  He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Gober, and by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be on Saturday at Noon at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery.
