Joy Bark Burris, longtime resident of Hazel Green, passed away at her Madison home surrounded by her family and friends. Joy was diagnosed with cancer in 2012, but she was able to continue to live a very full life until her final months. Joy was born on August 22, 1951 in Montgomery, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Reverend George and Irene Bark.
Joy received her nursing degree from The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1975. She especially enjoyed working with children, and worked at Children's Rehabilitation Services of Huntsville, a school nurse for both Lynn Fanning Elementary School and Meridianville Middle School, and the HEALS clinic.
Joy played the piano for the youth choir at Hazel Green United Methodist Church for many years. She also enjoyed baking, gardening, and sewing. Her most treasured time was spent with her family, whom she loved dearly. Joy was known for her quick smile, sweet disposition, and giving nature. She lived up to her name as she brought Joy to everyone she encountered.
Joy is survived by her husband of 25 years, Brian, her three children Daniel Hudson, 34 of Opelika, AL, Anna (Alan) Roach, 32 of Nashville, TN and Katie (Will) Burris, 24 of Auburn, AL, her granddaughter Margaret Joy 1 ½ of Nashville, TN and her brother John (Dawnya) Bark (MS).
The family will receive friends at Hazel Green Funeral Home on Friday, May 29 from 5-7pm. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 am Saturday, May 30 at Hazel Green United Methodist Church. Joy will be laid to rest at Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church cemetery in Hazel Green.
