Junior "Bill" Bates
June 8, 1935 — December 7, 2014
Mr. Junior "Bill" Bates, 79, of New Market, passed away on Sunday at his home surrounded by his family.
He had been a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church for 40 years and had served for 10 years in the National Guard. He had also served for a number of years with the New Market Volunteer Fire Department and had retired from the Madison County School System after 35 years and then operated Hickory Grove Barbeque for a number of years. Mr. Bates enjoyed music and had played bass fiddle for a gospel group for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Isabelle "Belle" Bates; His sons: Wilburn Lee Bates, Billy Wayne Bates, Thomas Edward Bates, Danny Ray Cagle, and Larry Dean Cagle - all of New Market; His daughters: Linda Blizzard of New Market and Carol Williams of Huntsville. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 12 Noon at the funeral home followed by burial in Macedonia Cemetery on the Old Huntsville Highway.
