Leona (Campbell) Jenkins Profile Photo

Leona Campbell Jenkins, 84, of New Market, passed away on Saturday evening while surrounded by her loving family at her home place where she was raised.

She was a graduate of New Market High School and a life-long resident of Madison County.  She married the late B.H. Jenkins in 1956 and they lived together in Hazel Green for many years before moving to her family home in Plevna.  After her retirement from Sam's Club, she enjoyed traveling.  The Smoky Mountains, Alaska, and Florida were extra-special to her, and spending time with her friends at the New Market Senior Center was very dear to her heart. She played a mean game of dominoes, and loved to dance.  Leona lived through a buckboard to Huntsville as a child to Facetime, though she never quite got the hang of using Siri. Leona cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She left nothing behind but wonderful memories.

She was preceded in death by her husband, B.H. Jenkins; Her siblings: James Campbell, Joe Ray Campbell, Beatrice Campbell, and Chris Alderman;  Her parents, Jesse Campbell & Ada Campbell Gardner;  Her dear friend, Velma Crumrine.

Surviving family members include her children:  Sheila & Walter Smithwick, Larry Jenkins, and Loretta & Brian Gaither; Her grandchildren: Amber (Bryan) Christa, Elizabeth (Hartley) Davis, Braxton Gaither, and Jason (Fiance, Jaedyn) Gaither; Great-grandchildren:  Seth Christa, Jordan Christa, Dominic Ocampo, Gabe (Kendall) Ocampo, Zareen Davis, Campbell Christa, and Gunnar Davis. Her brothers, Harold (Faye) Campbell, Sonny Campbell, and Louie Keith Campbell. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 4 until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10am at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.

Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
