Geneva Louise Smith Brown, aged 97, of New Market, Alabama, passed away on November 25, 2018 with her loving family by her side. She was born October 28, 1921 in New Market, Alabama.

She was the daughter of the late Samuel Smith and the late Viola Lanford Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Viola Smith, her husband, Paul Jones Brown, and her great grandson, Arthur Whitham.  She was married March 30, 1950 and remained married for thirty-six years until her husband's death in 1986.

She worked for thirty-six years for the Madison County Board of Education as secretary at Walnut Grove Elementary School. She was also a faithful member of Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church since her childhood.

She is survived by her two children: Noel Brown (Sherry) of New Market, Alabama; and Mary Brown McDowell (Bill) of Huntsville, Alabama; five grandchildren: Leah Brown Langston (Todd), Lorie Brown Danner (Shelby), and Randall Brown (Amanda) of New Market, Alabama; Jonathan McDowell (Amy) of Huntsville, Alabama; Anna McDowell Whitham (Michael) of Charlotte, North Carolina; and nine great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Sawyer Langston, Logan and Dawson Danner, and Brycen Brown of New Market, Alabama; William and Caroline McDowell of Huntsville, Alabama; and Eleanor and Mary Frances Whitham of Charlotte, North Carolina.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5 until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11am at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Whitham and Rev. Elmer "Buddy" Alverson officiating.   Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery in New Market.

Casket bearers will be Randall Brown, Jonathan McDowell, Bill McDowell, Wyatt Langston, Logan Danner, Todd Langston, Michael Whitham, and Shelby Danner.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concord C.P. Church or Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Women’s Association at 354 Roy Davis Road;  New Market, AL  35761.
