Martha Shinkle

Martha Grimwood Shinkle passed away on  Friday, September 4, 2015 in Orlando FL.  at the age of 92.  She was born on October 13, 1922, the youngest of seven children of Rolland and Duanna White Grimwood of Hazel Green. She met John E. Shinkle of Meridianville while they attended Hazel Green High School. They married shortly after World War II and lived in Meridianville until his death in 1993.

Martha attended Montevallo College during WWII while John served in the army.  Graduating with a degree in Home Economics, she taught several years in Huntsville prior to raising a family of five. Martha was active in her local Presbyterian Church and loved to read, sew, travel and watch her Auburn Tigers.  She moved to Orlando to live with her daughter Lee Ramsey and family in 2004.

Martha is survived by her 5 children: Stan Shinkle (Janet), Charles Shinkle (Rosanne), Duanne Simon (John), Cherry Macon (David) and Lee Ramsey (Paul). She leaves 9 grandchildren: Tiffany Wright (Brett); Charlie Shinkle (Erica); John Shinkle (Suzanne); Veronica Kyle (Travis); Gerald Shinkle; Meredith Francis (John); Valerie Flower (Jonathan); Stephen Ramsey (Morgan) and Scott Ramsey.  Eight great- grandchildren include: Kaylee, Shelby, Wyatt, Evan, Owen, Emily, Gavin & Duanna.

Funeral services will be Saturday at Noon at the North Hills Presbyterian Church in Meridianville.  The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.  Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens next to her beloved husband John.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mercy Fund at North Hills Church.
