Beloved Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, husband, and friend to many, died on the evening of Friday, October 24, 2014 resting peacefully surrounded by his entire family in the home of one of his children in New Market, AL.
Known to many as "J.H.", Mr. Taylor was born in Hazel Green in 1918 and was the second youngest child of 9 siblings born to parents John H. and Laura Belle Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Ruth Jacks Taylor, who passed away in November 1998. He is survived by his three sons, Bob and wife Rowena, Bill and wife Pam, Tom and wife Karen, and daughter Laura and Husband Paul.
He leaves behind an incredible legacy of 13 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. This legacy includes entrepreneurs, doctors, engineers, businessmen, law enforcement officers and other distinguished careers that were heavily influenced by the core values of this distinguished gentleman.
Mr. Taylor spent his professional career serving most of Madison County as a wholesale food broker for W.L. Halsey, S. W. Tidwell and JJ Food Brokers, until his retirement in 1985. He continued to serve his community with philanthropic activities up until his death. He regularly visited members of the community who were ill, producing a sweet treat to brighten the day. He quickly became known by the moniker of "Moon Pie John" by those he visited.
He enjoyed fishing, visiting with his family, and his time spent with those in the community.
Mr. Taylor was a devout Christian and a member, for over 70 years, of Union Grove Baptist Church in New Market, Alabama. He sang in the choir, or at least made a joyful noise, and taught Sunday school for over 30 years.
Visitation will be held at Union Grove Baptist Church in New Market, AL, from 11:00AM to 2:00 PM on Monday, October 27, 2014, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2pm. Mr. Taylor's Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and he will be buried at the Taylor Cemetery beside his wife Ruth, the true love of his life - together again forever.
