Mr. Wildon C. Neely, 94, of Hazel Green, died on Sunday evening at a local hospital.
Mr. Neely graduated from Hazel Green High School and attended UAH, The University of Maryland, and the University of Tennessee in Memphis; He retired from Redstone Arsenal as Chief of Supply and Transportation Division. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Queens APA 103. He was a Bostswain Mate 2nd Class operating an amphibious landing craft. He saw action at Lingayen Gulf, Phillipines, mopping up of Okinawa and the red hot battle for Iwo Jima. He often praised the Lord for being his co-pilot and watching over him.
Mr. Neely was preceded in death by his wife of 69+ years, Alda Towry Neely, his son, Gary L. Neely, and his grandson, Cary West.
He is survived by two children: Dean West and her husband, Claude, and by his son, Randy Neely; Four grandchildren: Shari (Mark) Appel, Robyn West, Tracy (Wendy) Neely, and Monnie Neely; Granddaughter-in-law: Sheri West; eight great-grandchildren: Ashley (Josh) Elmore, Mitchell (Anna Marie) West, Katie, Hannah, and Ivey Grace Appel, Nathan, Jack, and Bailey Neely. and one great-great grandchild: Peyton Elmore; 2 step-grandchildren: Mackenzie and Shelby Hill.
Mr. Neely was an active member of Harmony Hill Church of God. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Harmony Hill Child Care Center.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5 until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home; Funeral services will be Thursday at 11am at the funeral home with Rev. Don Hackney officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
