Paul Allen Wright, Sr. passed away peacefully at the age of 76, on Friday, January 1, 2021 at his home surrounded by family.  He was born on January 14, 1944 in Iuka, Mississippi, to LE and Clyde (Seago) Wright, who both preceded him in death.

Paul was married to Martha McFarlen on December 18, 1964 and they just celebrated 56 years of marriage.  Everyone who knew Paul, saw how much he loved his family, especially his four children and grandchildren.  In recent years he and Martha have also been blessed with great grandchildren they have adored.  He and Martha are both cherished by their loved ones and all grandchildren deeply love their Nana and Papaw.

Paul was a wonderful teller of stories and had a vast array of knowledge that amazed his friends and family.  He also could strike up a conversation with anyone and when they were finished he had made a lifelong friend.  He was also a master at fixing practically anything mechanical and it was surprising if he could not find a spare part for anything in his basement or his shop.  Paul was proud to be able to work on early rockets in the NASA programs of the 1960’s.  He also was a fix-it-all and handy-man and do anything man for the Georgia Christian School in the Valdosta area for many years.  He also worked at the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center upon their return to Huntsville and any friends of family were often given the grand tour of the museum that included the “back room” areas that only maintenance workers were privy to see.  After leaving the museum, he worked quality control before having to retire for health reasons.  Though being given only a couple of years by doctors after a health scare in the 1990’s, Paul showed his tenacity for life by surviving and enjoying many things in life for another 22 years.

Paul loved the church and his family attended faithfully at the Quitman Church of Christ in Georgia and the Plainview Church of Christ in Hazel Green, Alabama.  He was a deacon for many years at Plainview and was especially excited about their work in Costa Rica where he was able to visit several years ago. He was the son of a preacher and he had many good things to say about preachers he knew.  His family and friends are comforted to know that, as Paul placed this hope and trust in the Lord, he has his reward and is waiting for his loved ones to join him some day!  As the Lord promised: “Be faithful unto death and I will give you the crown of life.” Revelation 2:10.

Paul is survived by his wife, Martha McFarlen Wright, Daughter, Denise Hammitt and husband Mark of Corpus Christi, TX, daughter; Melissa Lemal and husband Robert of Woodstock, GA; son, Paul Allen Wright, Jr. and wife Robin of New Market, AL and daughter Kelly Morgan and husband, Matthew, of Ardmore, AL, 14 grandchildren (Preston, Courtney, Reagan, Payton, Brianna, Alex, Miranda, Jacob, Lane, Mackenzie, Ethan, Asa, Kaylee and Isaac) and 9 great grandchildren (Auburn, Cooper, Rowdy, Katlyn, Hunter, Saphira, Landon, Julia, and Evan).

Pall Bearers are Grandsons Preston Hammitt, Reagan Hammitt, Payton Hammitt, Alex Franco, Lane Wright, Ethan Morgan, Asa Morgan, and Isaac Morgan.

The funeral service will be held at Hazel Green Funeral Home on Sunday, January 3 at 2:00 PM with Steve Hale officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Center of Huntsville or Plainview Outreach.
