Richard Phelps Profile Photo

Richard "Dick" Phelps, 88, of Meridianville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday after a brief hospital stay.  He felt that being a Christian was the most important thing in his life, and he was a faithful part of the Church of Christ for 66 years, most recently as a member of Meridianville Church of Christ.

He proudly served his country in Korea and Vietnam in the United States Air Force, retiring as Master Sergeant after 20 years of service.  He then worked in civil service for nearly 20 years before retiring.    He enjoyed taking photos and videos, always made others laugh,  never met a stranger, and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his son, Shane Phelps.

Surviving family members include his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Brown Phelps;  His daughter and son-in-law, Karen & Al Apice;  His daughter and son-in-law,  Lisa & Terry McGill; His daughter-in-law, Hydi Phelps Hendrickson; His grandchildren: Stephanie Apice Boozer (Jonathan), Monica Apice, Lana Apice, Jesse McGill, Macie McGill Larsen (Taylor), Ryan McGill, Allyson Phelps Sellers (Levi), April Phelps, and Rosie Phelps.  He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, and by his brother, Terry (Linda) Phelps.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7pm at Meridianville Church of Christ.   Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11am at the church with Bro. Bill Cantrell officiating.  Burial with full military honors will follow at Huntsville Memory Gardens.

Masks and social-distancing are kindly requested.

Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
