Robert Counts Profile Photo

The Reverend Robert Paul Counts, 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior early on the morning of March 24, 2020.

He is survived by his wife, 2 brothers, 4 daughters and a son, 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who served in the full-time pastoral ministry for over 50 years.  He served as pastor and shepherd to many over the years of his ministry in Lutheran congregations across the southeast, including two in Huntsville.  He was an engineer at heart, with a sharp intellect and a creative mind who answered the greater call to the full-time pastoral ministry.  A self-taught master carpenter, he could look at a picture or a sketch and bring it to life in wood.  His many woodworking projects were crafted with the same love he demonstrated in his life.  A little bit of Paul Counts went into every project.  He was a loving husband who demonstrated for all of his children, in-laws included, how to be a godly husband and father.  A man with so much joy and love of the Lord in his heart, a joy he shared with everyone he met, he is now praising and worshipping in the very presence of Jesus.

Due to current events a private internment service will be held with immediate family only.  An open memorial service for friends and family is planned for some point in the future when the current quarantines are relaxed.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, please consider memorial gifts to either Grace Lutheran Church and School or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (apda.org).

Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
