Lavada Rose Balsam, 90, of Meridianville, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon surrounded by loved ones.

Rose's passion and gift in life was styling hair which she did for over 65 years.  She served her patrons at Rose's Beauty Box on Governor's Drive in Huntsville for most of that time alongside her sister, Sadie Stanley. She was also an avid gardener and loved to fish.  She was a native of Louisiana, born and raised in Simpson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Dixon Balsam and by her daughters, Brenda Kaye Hurst and Linda Faye Rowland;  Her siblings, Gentry Jackson, Claiborn Jackson, Zada Hicks, Sadie Stanley, and Bonnie Wise;  Her son-in-law, Robin Hurst.

Surviving family members include her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis & Maureen Rowland;  Her daughter and son-in-law,  Robbi & Mike Montgomery;  Her grandchildren: Shannon Dalpozzal, Jeremy Hurst, Jake Montgomery, and Megan Boles;  Her great-grandchildren: Benjamin Lane, Lauren Lane, Olive Hurst, and Pearl Hurst. She is also survived by several niece and nephews who were very special to her.

There will be a graveside service on Sunday at 2pm at Valhalla Memory Gardens with Pastor Brad Williams officiating.
