Roy Sherman Bates, 72, of Elkmont, Alabama passed away Saturday evening in Decherd, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby P. and Lila Pogue Bates and by one daughter, Christina Bates.
He is survived by his children, Myron Bates, Roy Bates and Paula Fanning, his grandchildren, Kayla Doney, Kasey Benson, Dylan Bates, Luke Bates, Adam Gifford, Andrew Gifford and James Fanning, four great grandchildren, six brothers, Paul Bates, Hollis Bates, Thomas Bates, Jeff Bates, Jimmie Bates and David Bates, six sisters, Evelyn Rozell, Alice Smith, Dora Warren, Jenell Tucker, Gertrude Quick and Claudia Moran.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2pm at the funeral home with Claudia Moran & Jenell Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in New Sharon Cemetery.
