Mrs. Ruby Phillips, 84, of Hazel Green, went to be with the Lord on Sunday while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born and raised in Madison County and lived her whole life in the Hazel Green area. She was a wonderful mother who loved her children and grandchildren very much, enjoyed fishing and shopping, and flowers and was loved by everyone who met her because of her sweet spirit. Many people felt close to her and nicknamed her "Granny." Mrs. Ruby was a Christian and was a part of the Pentecostal faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Phillips; Her son, James Thomas Phillips Jr.; Her daughter, Sandy Lee Winkles, Her parents, Dillion & Viola Smith Sparks; Her brothers, Olan and Nolan Sparks, and Paul Sparks.
Surviving family members include her children: Linda Taylor, Shirley Howard, Kathey Keel, Elaine Carlisle, Bernice McMinn, Phoebe Phillips Colwell, and Tammy Smith; 30 Grandchildren, 42 Great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; Her brothers, Leamon Sparks and Kenneth Sparks; Her sisters, Pauline Stafford and Stella Lewis. She is also survived by her puppy, Sadie.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 until 9pm at The Covering Christian Fellowship located at the intersection of Opp Reynolds Road and Morris Road in Toney. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 2:30pm at the church with Rev. Terry Sanders and Rev. Anthony Moore officiating. Burial will follow in New Sharon Cemetery.
