Mr. Sherman Cottrell of Huntsville, Alabama went to be with the Lord on Sunday while surrounded by his loved ones.   He was 95. Mr. Cottrell was a faithful Christian and had been a member of several churches in the Huntsville area including West Huntsville Baptist Church, Southside Baptist Church, and Woodland Hill Baptist Church.

Mr. Cottrell was raised in the Good Springs Community of Walker County.   After graduating from high school, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War.   He then worked with the United States Postal Service for 34 years before retiring.

Mr. Cottrell was preceded in death by his son, Sherman DeWayne Cottrell and by his daughter, Kimberly Renee Cottrell Allen; His parents; Clyde & Mae Cottrell;  His brothers: C.W. Cottrell Jr, Lavernis "Bunny" Cottrell, Hershel "Monk" Cottrell;  His five sisters: Mary Cottrell Thompson Prestidge, Betty Cottrell Walden, Nina Cottrell Mason, Sue Cottrell Kilpatrick, & Queze Cottrell Fergerson.

Surviving family members include his wife of almost 68 years, Elsie Hudson Cottrell;  His granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Nicole Allen Johnston & Garrett Johnston;  His son-in-law, Mike Allen;. His sister-in-law, Peggy Hudson Brooks.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1pm at Woodland Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Barry Cosper officiating.   The family will receive friends an hour before the service.   Following the service, burial with military honors will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Allen, Mike Davis, Garrett Johnston,Wayne Kimbrough, and Daniel Cole.
