Funeral services for James Leo “Buddy” “Sib” Sibley, 80, of Hazel Green, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 6th, at Hazel Green Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Lones officiating. Burial will follow at State Line Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5th, at the funeral home.

Mr. Sibley died at 9 a.m. Saturday at home with his family.

He was born in the Big Cove community to Romie Donald and Kathryn (Sadler) Sibley. He graduated from Madison County High School (Gurley) in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army and was activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Berlin Crisis. He retired from Huntsville Utilities after 38 years. He loved country and bluegrass music and learned to play guitar at 58; he played and sang regularly at several local jam sessions.

Mr. Sibley was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Clayton Sibley and Earl Carter Sibley; three sisters, Lorraine Sibley, Raye (Sibley) Heilman, and Mary Ann Sibley.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Lou (Hunter) Sibley; two daughters, Carolyn  Sibley Wells (Bill) and Cyndi Sibley, all of Hazel Green; two brothers, Bob Sibley and William Sibley, both of Big Cove; two sisters, Sherry Troglen of Huntsville and Charlotte Fulton of Athens; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Pallbearers will be Dickey Potter, Anthony Potter, Todd Hochberger, Dwight Key, Jeff Hunter, Randy Hunter, Jim Troglen, Lynn Layne,Bill Wells, and Michael Heilman. Honorary pallbearers will be Maria Shelby, Bruce Crutcher, Brent Thatcher, Scott Moore, Jack Moore, Bobby Gibbs, Bobby Brazelton, and G.W. Robinson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of North Alabama or Madison County Humane Society.
