Mr. Melborn Elswade "Wade" Wharton was born in Stantonville, TN where he attended school. He then graduated high school in Tyronza, Arkansas in 1955 before attending college at Arkansas State University.

He served in the US Army Signal Corp and the 101st AIrborne Division as a paratrooper, an accomplished scuba diver, and a machinist on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.

Upon retirement, he began to do the things he loved. Wood carvings, paintings, stained glass, and metal sculptures and gourd sculptures won many awards and ribbons in art shows in the Huntsville area. Plants and animals were some of his interests. A variety of his metal sculptures are currently on display at Huntsville Botanical Gardens, the Huntsville Senior Center, and at the University of Alabama in Huntsville - Union Grove Hall.

Wade was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper Stephen Wharton and Jean Pickens Wharton Sipes; 3 brothers-in-law, Beryl Columbus Gray, William Ferrell Maness, and Sammy Ray Webster.

He is survived by his daughter, Emily Mychele Wharton and husband, Robert E. Flaherty Jr; Two granddaughters, Jessica Lynne and Megan Leslie Flaherty of Chelsea, Alabama. He was married to Jayne Presley Wharton Krotchko of Michie, TN;

He is also survived by three sisters, Nancy Belle Gray of Lancaster, TX, Betti Ann Maness Jordan and husband, Junior Jordan of Toone, Tn, and Susan Gail Webster of Bolivar, TN. Two brothers: Thomas Maurice and wife, Mary Ann Lunsford Wharton of Nagadoches, Tx and Charles Terry and wife, Mary Yarbrough Wharton of Toone, TN; Many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and admirers.

Memorials may be made to the Greater Huntsville Humane Society.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Mt. Vinson Methodist Church on Mt. Vinson Road in Stantonville, TN on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 2:00pm
