Evelyn (Allen) Allison

Ms. Evelyn "Granny" Allison, 88, of Paint Rock, formerly of New Market, passed away on Monday at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Ms. Allison valued hard work and often walked to her job at Mullin's Restaurant where she cooked for many years.  In spite of dealing with much adversity in life, she always had a positive attitude and lifted the spirits of others with her great sense of humor.  She also loved to grow flowers and plants.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Cantrell who died in 1958;  Her son, Thomas Wayne Cantrell who died in 2001;  Her son, Charles Wagner Cantrell who died in 2004; and by her dog, Sadie;  She was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Surviving family members include her daughter, Sara Mayes; Her special long-time friend, Rhonda Birchfield;  Her two grandchildren,  Tamara Atchley and Lloyd Mayes;  Seven great-grandchildren: Blake Mayes, James Ray Mayes, Mariah Mayes, Dekota Childers, Ethan Atchley, Jackson Atchley, and Devin Atchley;  Two great-great grandchildren, Braley Mayes and Ryland Mayes;  Her sister, Sally Ruth Johnson.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8pm and again on Thursday at 1pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.   Funeral services will be Thursday at 2pm at the funeral home.    Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery.
