Roger Bassett Kapp

Roger, son of Edward and Lucille Kapp, was born on March 24, 1943, in Flint, MI. Inspired by  his father in his formative years, Roger was involved in the Boy Scouts of America from an  early age, serving with troop 186 at Pierce School. In 1959, he earned the Eagle Award, the  Boy Scouts highest honor. Roger also earned his Eagle Badge at the same time as his father.

Roger graduated from Powers High School in 1961 and attended Alma College in Alma, MI,  graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy. During his college years, Roger  served in the Army reserves and did his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Over the  course of Roger’s life, he worked for the Boy Scouts of America, Marcone Appliance, and most  recently gave 23 yrs of service working at American Insurance Agency in Huntsville, AL. Roger  was also a lifelong member of Kiwanis International and would often visit Kiwanis groups  around Illinois and Alabama, depending on where his work travels took him.

In November of 1983, Roger married his love, and spiritual soulmate, Gladys Ruth McNeil  Kapp. They enjoyed 41 years of marriage, residing in Peoria, IL and Madison, AL. Their  Christian faith was an essential part of their life together. Roger was actively involved in his  church communities at Northwest Baptist Church in Peoria and West Huntsville Baptist Church  in Huntsville.

While in his late 20’s, Roger prayed to receive Christ while attending a Billy Graham Crusade.  Since then, he has played an active role in serving in church ministries and in his community.  He loved music and was a member of the West Huntsville Baptist Church choir for 30 years,  served and lead music in the Awana program (Sparks) for 16 years, and participated in many  missions trips to Honduras, Ukraine, Costa Rica, Slovakia, Eutaw, AL, and St. Louis, MO.

He was involved at Westminster Christian Academy with the Key Club and awarding scholarships through Kiwanis International. He was also seen attending many ball games and events at Westminster to show his support to students, faculty and administration. Roger served the Lord with joy everyday and he loved people deeply. He fulfilled the role of a Grandfather figure  to many children that came through his ministries and his church. He had the ability to make  people feel like they were the most important person in his life by remembering the details  about them. Roger was humble and unassuming, but he always found ways to meet the  physical and spiritual needs of those around him.

On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, while serving in Honduras with a missions team from West Huntsville Baptist Church, Roger Bassett Kapp, at the age of 81, passed away into the presence of the Lord.

Grandchild- Jacob Kapp, Oshkosh, WI
Grandchild- Benjamin Kapp, Madison, WI
Sister- Barbara Killeen (George), Bay City, MI

Roger was preceded in death by:
Father - Edward Kapp, 1983
Mother - Lucille Kapp, 1989
Brother - James Kapp, 2011

Family and friends are invited to celebrate the home going of Roger Kapp at West Huntsville  Baptist Church Friday, July 5, 2024. Visitation is at 4:00 pm and a service will be held  immediately following at 5:00 pm. Interment will be at a later date in Wapello, IA.
